About the Author

Mary Dalgleish has worked as a practising complementary health therapist since 1999. After experiencing the power of complementary therapies in improving her own health and wellbeing, she studied Aromatherapy at the Tisserand Institute in London (where she later worked as a tutor and student mentor). Easy to use.

I wasn't a believer. I didn't think this ear candle thing would work. I WAS WRONG!!! I'm 65 and am having slight hearing problems and wax buildup. My husband was the wizard with these things, and now I hear better than ever! Really!! I can hear the TV in the living room now when I'm in the bedroom. Couldn't hear it before. I think my husband now has the TV too loud (but the volume setting is the same as it was before the candles went into my ears). All I can say is, try it - can't hurt!!!

I wouldn't say this is the "only" guitar book you'll ever need - but I would say it's probably the best I've ever seen. I reach for it every time I practice. The explanations are clear, and Marc Schonbrun writes in a way that keeps you interested. I also have his Everything series book on reading music, which is excellent as well. Definitely worth your time and money.

Really useful for a beginner with little musical background. Learn to read music traditionally or by guitar tabs.Great for learning chords in an effective and organized way.

This was a gift for my husband and he's just learning to play the guitar. It's a great book and I believe it can help him achieve his goals.

About the Author

Barry Clifford is one of the world's best-known underwater explorers. Born and raised on Cape Cod, he has been involved in underwater surveys and recovery missions for more than half of his life. After locating the wreck of the legendary Whydah in 1984, Clifford and his team successfully located the main body of the shipwreck in 1998. He has preserved the Whydah artifacts as an intact collection, establishing a museum, the Expedition Whydah Sea Lab & Learning Center, in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Clifford is also an accomplished mountaineer and jungle explorer, a member of the Explorers Club, and a Discovery Quest Scholar. He is the author of Expedition Whydah, The Lost Fleet, and Return to Treasure Island.

I purchased Real Pirates: The Untold Story of the Whydah from Slave Ship to Pirate Ship for a presentation I had to do for class on Phillips, Thomas, Buying slaves in Whydah 1694. I started taking bit and pieces from the book but I found it to be so interesting that I read the book. (Not into History!). I love the passion the author had about the Whydah and the picture were breathtaking which also aided in my interest. After my presentation, my professor complimented me on the visual aid but little did he know I had the book with me as a gift to him. He’s such an historian nut that I wanted him to enjoy what I had the pleasure of enjoying.

This National Geographic Society masterpiece, written by Barry Clifford (the explorer who discovered the Whydah Galley) and the late great Ken Kinkor (noted pirateologicst and the chief project historian for Clifford's Expedition Whydah), gorgeously presents the history and discovery of the world's only fully authenticated pirate ship wreck.Though it does fully function as a companion to National Geographic's "REAL PIRATES" traveling Whydah artifact exhibits, as it was originally designed to be, it stands on its own as a true work of piratical history.

I liked this book very much. If you want to know all of the history of the Whydah, including what was found from the wreck, this is a great book.

Fantastic book for young people, but it is also a fast and informative read for adults. Wonderfully illustrated.

A great companion for the Pirates museum exhibit.I saw the museum showing a year or so back, and didn't pick up the book then. Finally came across it in my recommended list and thought I should get it. It's a great read for anyone who saw the exhibit, goes in all the details and a lot of info on the teams who found the wreck.

Ken could have included more about some of the original crew who contributed greatly to the finding of the Whydah. I guess you can forgive him,because he wasn't working for Maritime Explorations with us when we found her.

Very interesting story of early pirates and the recent find of their ship and booty. Well done and is a perfect accompaniment to the exhibition if you get a chance to visit a museum that has it on display.

Extreme Physics is half the length of the regular Physics book and has some character overlap, which is a little disappointing, but the original characters are spot on. It takes a huge leap in explaining things like quantum mechanics and Schrödinger's Cat and more importantly why we might want to think about these things. In a STEM (or STEAM) world it's more and more important to get kids to the edge of science and then see what they can run with, this makes the introduction fun and inspiring, love having this book in our collection(even if it is quite a bit shorter than I would like!).

My kids really like this series, though I'm not exactly sure why - the illustrations seem just OK and the content takes difficult concepts and tries to make it easy for kids, but it ends up confusing and I don't think they really end up understanding what the book is trying to explain sometimes. But that might be more because of the difficult concepts. I think if they stuck with easier science concepts it would be more effective but again - my 7-year-olds like them!This one is a little funkier than the others though - for example, a "face transplant" is kind of interesting but a little too wacky for me to feel like it's really educational.

My son is a voracious reader. We got him 7 of the Basher Science books for his 8th birthday in late March. He had finished them all by the end of April and has picked them back up again to reread. (2nd grade, reading at a U-level) He won't touch a fiction book unless forced, but if it is about science or technology he can't put it down. Just enough pictures to keep him from feeling intimidated by the text, perfect silliness level to keep him engaged, and more real science facts than he could absorb the first time through.

I love the basher science books for teaching my daughter. She is 4.5 and just able to get into them some. THIS one however would not be good for a younger child and may be beyond a preteen. I actually bought it for myself to better my understanding of quantum physics as a person untrained in non-mechanical sciences.

My 8 year old son loves this series. He has Chemistry and Physics and rereads chapters all the time. This book explains science in terms that most 3rd and 4th graders can understand and in a way that keeps their interest. I have also learned a fact or two. They are very good converstation starters. Who would have thought that I would be discussing Brownian Motion with my 3rd grader while I was making coffee one morning! Definitely High-Interest books.

An excellent resource for gaining conceptual understanding of the fundamentals of Physics. Do not expect example formulae and problem sets. This work is designed to stimulate interest and answer basic questions.

These Basher Science books are super great for a classroom library. I teach 4th graders, they love the half dozen or so of these books that we have. I do a little preview and the kids are hooked! Gotta love it when they don't realize they are even learning.

"It's just great, so informational!" "I've learned tons of information and cool facts." Quotes from our 9 year old son. He was first introduced to the Basher Science series in 3rd grade--"Rocks and Minerals". Since then, we've purchased most of the series for our children's home library. Our younger children aren't yet ready to read them but our 9 year old LOVES the series and uses them as both resource and reading entertainment. The books make learning fun with clever characters and bright illustrations.

SAT solvers are a topic that I naively covered in college, and then never returned to. As a course to learn how to build a SAT solver, this text provides a variety of methods that can be used for stretching programming muscles.More, though, the sections at the beginning showing what a SAT solver can be used for are particularly eye opening. In many ways, it paints SAT as a brute force hammer for solving problems. It is an interesting form of brute force that is widely applicable and can still be used, however. I'm looking forward to giving myself time to work on the LIFE transitions problem. (I may cheat and use Knuth's version of SAT solvers posted on his website.)After that, it is interesting to see the empiricism that goes into analyzing the various algorithms developed. Most that have not read him believe Knuth to be focused on the theoretical limits of algorithms. One need only look at the chart on timings to see that this is not true.As in previous books, I confess most of the exercises are above my ability. Luckily, you are encouraged to read the answers and should not be put off by the challenge of the problems. Instead, it is the challenges that makes things fun.

As always, this is a milestone work. I'm still waiting for fascicle 5, which must be extremely complex to put together, since this already complex fascicle 6 has been released already.

Classic Book that is foundational to understanding computer Science. Knuth is a genius and it's great to see his work available in Kindle format!
