Kohshyu Yoshida was born and raised in Chiba, Japan. The great-grandson of a ronin samurai warrior, he has studied martial arts from all over the world and now teaches martial arts in Los Angeles, CA. This book and dvd is horrible. Don't judge a book by it's cover. All the techniques in this book are done incorrectly. The footwork is completely wrong for the use of the Samurai sword. The self defense moves used here would get you killed. I have nothing good to say about this book besides the quality of the paper. I have trained in multiple martial arts and from living legends for 30 years. Don't waste you money on this!There are some AMAZING books out there and this book ain't it! Here are some AMAZING books on Samurai Swordsmanship. Books to check out: Katori Shinto-ryu: Warrior Tradition, Shinkendo Japanese Swordsmanship, Flashing Steel, Second Edition: Mastering Eishin-Ryu Swordsmanship , Samurai Swordsmanship: The Batto, Kenjutsu, and Tameshigiri of Eishin-Ryu

I have gotten more out of this book than I thought I would. While the techniques in this book are solid and aimed at the beginner swordsman, it is the philosophies of the author that got my attention. I just enjoyed his teaching on his thoughts of swordsmanship and the use of the sword in general. His thoughts are not new to either Japanese budo teachings or even to one of a hundred 'self help books', but his way of phrasing them just struck a cord with me. I have recently picked up the sword again after a long hiatus and I was looking for something basic to help me jog all that muscle memory and as I said this book is really good for that. Nothing can replace a good teacher but if you don't have that availability then this book is a good starting (or rebooting) point in my opinion. I am currently spending a couple of months behind a suburi bokken to strengthen the muscles concerned with wielding a katana that I have allowed to weaken and there is even a good several pages of that in here as well. I have not viewed the DVD as yet as I am taking this at pace , so I cannot comment on that. I am enjoying this book. It will not make you an overnight Samurai, there is nothing that can do that. Swordsmanship takes time, dedication, sore aching muscles and good instruction, however, if you are looking to take up the practice of the Japanese sword or are returning to it then this would be a good way to begin. The book is very clear and well written and the photographs are all well done and easy to follow. I ordered this book used but if came used from the vendor I could not tell. Everything was in pristine condition upon arrival.

The book and DVD are excellent instructions. It's simple, clear, easy to understand. Of course, you can't expect to pick up the $20 book of Samurai sword and become expert or samurai warrior next week or next month. Learning Martial Arts is a long journey required to be patient and discipline. If you already learned from other martial arts discipline, all foot works and movements are similar. I look at this book as another different skills set to learn from something different to add to my martial arts journey, and I appreciated Kohshyu Yoshida has spent his time to pass on his skills and knowledge.

Basic content but good entry point for getting started. good photos in the book and the introduction is excellent. The DVD is helpful but almost comically brief in it's content. The final thoughts chapter is a closeup of Kohshyu saying one sentence. He was being so serious it made me laugh.

This book is the closest thing to the training I had been doing, so happy I ran across it!

The content of this book are most like photos of kata with very well-written illustration.However, these photos are not in a good sequence and you have to watch the including DVD to get the detail of auther's motion.I'm practicing Kendo and Iaido, and have some kenjishu DVDs from Japan.From my point of view,this book is great to take you through how Hollywood actors play katana in a crazy awesome cool way. (ex: Wesley Snipes in "Blade")If you would like to explore the simple, plain traditional kenjishu, you may get lots of demos from different ryus on Youtube.From the same publisher, "Mastering the Samurai Sword: A Full-Color, Step-by-Step Guide " would be a good reference book for a serious martial art trainer.

Great pictures, however the author applied lot timey terms which do not apply to the contemporary artists work, end of day, banded, etc. This makes some of the categories arbitrary or just counter to the construction of the marble. That said, this is still the a great book.

A perfect book for the marble collector, this is the kind of book that can be read a hundred times and learn something new about the marble collectors world. Beautiful pictures and it shows that a lot of work went in to this book! Looking forward to more books by Mark Block!

While Block's first coffee table book on the subject of contemporary marbles was a fine piece of work, his second book is not, and anybody who says it is is either blind or crazy or a homer. Marble collectors love to see nice pictures of beautiful marbles, and while there are indeed LOTS of marble pictures in this book to look at, the vast majority of them are of such poor quality that it actually becomes a painful process to keep flipping the pages to see more of them. But that's not the worst part of the book. More egregious than the photography is the organization of the book. It is a haphazard mess of marbles, with no clear sense of how they are grouped and why. It actually starts out as if it's going somewhere, but then completely falls apart, as if the author was being whipped while on a chain gang in order to get the book finished by some crazy deadline. It ended up being maddening to flip through, since marbles were thrown together in bizarre ways that just leave you frustrated.In summary, save your money and find places online instead where you can find some true quality pictures of marbles with MUCH better stories and descriptions behind them. Hopefully somebody else comes out with a better book to redeem the marble community from the pain of this one.

I haven't been collecting art glass marbles all that long, but I do know a beautiful book when I see one. The pictures are fantastic, clear and cover every possible type of handmade marble. I haven't had time to read the entire book, but I have paged through it several times just to marvel at the photography. What I have read seems to be concise and well written. I'm sure that I will find it to be a valuable source of reference for years to come.There's only one problem... every page shows a different type of marble that I need to add to my collection... this could get expensive!

This book is clearly one of only two that specialize in the hot collectible of contemporary marbles. Mark Block is the reknown and acknowledged expert in the field. This is easily seen in the in-depth research he has done, the cooperation he received from the Corning Museum of Glass, and all of the beautiful works that were incorporated into this exciting volume. I only hope that future books by Mark Block will meet or exceed his own expectations. If they do, the glass community will be all the better for it. He is truly Mr. Ambassador when it comes to contemporary marbles and related art glass.

He has distilled the elements of hundreds of different types of claims and affirmative defenses, and he cites the key cases and statutes for each claim. If Nevada law does not provide a relevant case or statute, he provides the citations to the cases, statutes and rules of the other states. He also includes commentary that is extremely helpful to understanding the elements of the claims and defenses. This treatise provides attorneys with an excellent resource to begin additional research to use in pleadings, briefs, demands and mediation statements. As soon as I purchased my first copy, I used this guide to find a citation for a relevant case I needed for a Mediation Brief to support our position in liability. I quickly found the citation I needed and then read the entire case on a computerized research database, and quoted the essential excerpts for my brief. The Mediator agreed with the analysis and, early in the Mediation, he informed the defense that if he were the arbitrator, he would rule against the defense. That case settled quickly and I left the Mediation with a very satisfied client. I immediately purchased other copies to share with my colleagues.Michael T. This could be a good book but I will never know because I am unable to read such print. It is copies of pages which are reduced down to fit the page making unreadable to most all but those with the best of eyes in a well lit room. It should have been in large print format but even then it would be difficult to read the font. Wish I had my money back but I gave it away to my professor of law. I would not buy this if I went to a book store so in this event amazon and Mr. Williams failed a customer.

I loved this book! Any fan of Hawking's work should enjoy it, for sure. I really liked the "pondering" and "musing" pace and feel. I'd recommend it to anyone.@Diane... Whenever I encounter something to which I feel the need to respond, I’m usually pretty good at keeping my emotions at bay, and I sincerely try to (and, usually do) keep my cool, put myself into the other person’s shoes and think about my rebuttals logically. Over the years I’ve always felt a little guilty because, even though I’m amicable and nice most of the time, I just feel bad when I make someone else feel bad, regardless of how correct I might feel that I am. After seeing your comment, however, I really have to say congratulations… you’ve convinced me that I really shouldn’t be so hard on myself.Pathetic? I guess our definitions are a tad juxtaposed. I've always taken that word to mean "causing or evoking pity, sympathetic sadness, or sorrow." It baffles me that you can throw the book at another human being, (one who had PLENTY of reasons to wallow in self-pity, mind you, but didn't) simply for disagreeing with you, and do so under the guise of "defending yourself," all the while implying a whine that these disagreements are an "attack" on your religion. To me, THAT is the self-pity party that fits more in line with the definition of "pathetic," wouldn't you agree? Scientific discoveries are no more responsible for attacking religion, or having a motive or agenda to remove your belief in God, than learning about gravity is responsible for children eventually coming to the conclusion that reindeer can’t fly. I’m sorry, Virginia, but we lied. I don’t know if you just simply can’t grasp how it appears to the outside world, but your comment does nothing more than make you look like a petulant toddler in a tantrum because you can’t have any ice cream, and THEN taking all of the ice cream and flushing it down the toilet to make sure no one else can have any. If the weather man conveys some data that it is probably going to rain tomorrow, do you start a revolution to rise up against the hidden agenda of meteorology to wipe the concept of picnics off the face of the Earth? And even though I’m an atheist, I very much want to live in a world where people can have faith and conviction about anything they want without having to prove it to the entire flippin' planet in order to feel justified in feeling the way they do, and more importantly, not condemn others for thinking differently. I’m not convinced that God exists, but if you are, then right on. I mean, I get it man, I used to be a Christian myself. You shouldn’t feel threatened by the world because it seems like it’s trying to take something away from you that you know full well cannot ever be taken from you. Let’s try to get this ship turned around and start acting like the amazing creatures we really are by helping each other move forward, instead of tearing each other down and holding up progress for the sake of making a point.The man who wrote this book did his part, now let's get out there and start doing ours. This book collects the scientific thoughts and evidence-based conclusions from one of the most rational and gifted minds in the recorded history of human kind. Although the book maintains the same super engaging and impressive narrative of previous books by Dr. Hawking, this ones converges specifically on his science-based conclusions about the “big questions”. He again makes his thoughts appear intuitive and simple, yet they come from the one of the most objective, impartial, rational and brilliant scientific minds the human race has ever produced.

Bought this book not expecting much from it. Ended up being pleasantly surprised. Hawking has a way of explaining even the most complex things in a very simple, no nonsense, and straightforward manner.

I am a big fan of Stephen Hawking, but it seems this book was rushed through. On Page 73 looks like who ever wrote this, does not have any idea about the structure of DNA. It says the two Chains in the helix are linked by nucleic acids and further mentions that there are four types of nucleic acids- adenine, cytosine, guanine and thymine; these are actually called as bases. While as the actual nucleic acids are deoxribonucleic acid (DNA) and Ribinucleic acid(RNA).Also negative 270.4 degree Centigrade is equal to negative 454.7 degree F.

Not being a mathemetician (calculus put paid to my ambotion to be an engineer) or even an acquintance, I still felt a great sense of loss on hearing of Professor Hawking's passing earlier this year. Most members of my generation have grown up and grown older with him always there, always puttting out new ideas, new thoughts, new discoveries for us to ponder and try to understand. To have the oppurtunity to read this book, to understand on a lay-persons' level what he considered important enough to devote himself to is a pleasure. His style of writing is clean, clear and pleasant. It doesn't bog down in minutiae, yet never feels as if he is speaking down to you. Some of the subjects he touches on will bring sharp rebuttals from certain parts of society, but that goes hand-in-hand with being a thinker that will speak what he (or she) firmly believes. Regardless, it has been a pleasure to take a small walk down the path treaded by one of our giants. Highly recommended.

Fact is clearly separated from opinion, and the opinions are presented with respect. Writing a book as good as this would be a crowning lifetime achievement for many of us. That it was a relatively lightweight spinoff from his real work underscores his genius.

I usually read on Kindle, but this book had to be ordered in print, and having read it, I understand why. There are places to make notes, which should be very helpful. I have already written and published six books in a mystery series and want to start a new series that is "cozier," and to have more organization done before I begin writing. (I am one of those people that the writing book authors call a "pantser"). I got a number of useful ideas from this book on the first reading, and will sit down and fill out those answers before I start to write. For someone who doesn't want to follow an outline on a page by page basis, this is still a good book for thinking the plot through.Maybe I'll have to order another one for the second book in the series! In any case, I would certainly recommend it. Thank you, Sara Rosett.

Work book is an absolute, specific useful tool to not just write cozy mysteries, but also write what you love. The workbook has exercises that at first I didn't think I needed, but I went back and did them. I can say, trust the authors process. It works.

I bought this book hoping to have a substantive guide specifically geared toward cozy mysteries. While it does have information on cozies, there is a complete lack of depth of the subject. The entire book reads like an outline and took me only about two hours to read. Most of the 144 pages are blank with lines for the reader to fill in, as you would expect from a "workbook." But if you compare this to a workbook such as Janice Hardy's "Plotting Your Novel Workbook," you'll find it lacking substance. In my opinion, the information in "How to Outline a Cozy Mystery: Workbook" can be found in a ten-minute internet search. Save your money, buy a $1 blank spiral-bound notebook.

I am finding this book extremely helpful. It's a workbook for her online course, which I haven't taken yet, but works very well without the course, too. Also, one of my favorite authors!

This workbook covers all aspects of writing the cozy mystery. A great resource and hands-on book for the writer.

It was more of a pamphlet than a book.

This is a fun guide. Very pleased with my purchase.
