The book itself came in great condition, and arrived super quick (w/ Prime). Terence is one of the great Roman playwrights we have complete plays from, and they are very interesting. I even suggested one to the theatre company I work for because I'd love to direct it. Whether you just want to study the history of theatre by reading Terence, or you have an interest in actually doing a play, I'd recommend this.
The introduction includes an enjoyable and informative discussion of Greek comedy, early Latin literature, and Roman theater. The Latin text that follows differs from that on Perseus.org, and it makes more sense. Ashmore puts accent marks on the Latin to help scansion. The commentary focuses on the grammar and reading, but it also notes comparisons with other plays and refers to some scholarly articles.
I bought this book for a Roman history class and I really enjoyed the plays. I think that I will read more than just the assigned readings.
What can I say I like the classics and it was a required college book. If you enjoy the classics give it a whirl.
Try the audible verison-- her narration adds a lot I think.
