Wonder full book.

I would give a newer edition five stars. We have used the edition that came out in the 70's for four decades but it was pretty obsolete for a lot of what we are seeing in East Tennessee (such as a river full of osprey nests that were not shown as inhabiting this area when we first moved here), and it is surprising that the Society updated the book with this second edition in 1994 but not since, making it the most recent edition and surely deficient for current habitation information. I suspect the convenience of a computer search on one's smart phone has something to do with that, but having the book in hand is an entrenched pleasure we old folks are not surrendering yet.

I have tried many bird books to ID the local Maine birds and this one is the best one I have found. Many books have pictures from odd angles, the wrong sizes for the birds, and very sparse information about the birds' habits and characteristics.I don't like the awkward plastic binder or the thin pages. The older editions were much sturdier and easier to handle but what can you do? This is the best book for New England in my opinion.

Very informative and helpful in identifying the birds we've had coming to our feeders for the last few years in middle Tennessee! It's been very exciting for both my husband and myself. We are looking forward to the Spring and putting out new types of feed to attract different birds in our area. Great guide for young and old!

I really like this book. We have just started feeding birds and I can easily look up what they are in the book by looking at the pictures and then reading up on them.

My best friends 4 year old loves animals and wildlife so I bought him this book for Easter last year. (He has fur pelts hanging in his bedroom to give you a clue. He knows more about wildlife than most adults I know.) I knew it would be advanced for him until he got older but since it has the full color photos I figured it would be ok. Plus this gave Mom and dad stuff to teach him.The kid LOVES it! Mom said they get it out at least a couple times a week. They’ll see a bird fly by outside and he has to run inside and get his bird book so they can see if it’s in there.I plan on getting him others so that eventually he has them all. As much as he loved this one I’m sure he’ll love the rest.

The first one of these I purchased for my Dad. He cataloged the birds in his yard using a Golden book, decided heneeded one with real pics. I then purchased one of me, and have discovered so much about the birds on my feeders over the years. This one I purchased for my godmother, she loves birds too and loves the book as well. Highly recommendfor bird watchers. I am sure there are other books, but this one is a great one!

Bought this as a Christmas present for my father in law. He was very happy, and loved the contents, design and portability. It’s a small and cute book. Very nicely made.

This book has some nice pictures but I don’t care for the way it is organized. Having a section titled perching birds really doesn’t narrow it down nearly enough, quickly enough. Then you have to look the birds up a second time to find any information about them. I purposely picked a book that was Prime in case I wanted to return it but surprise I have to pay $5.99 to ship it back anyway! Better off going to a bookstore to look at the books in person.

I just finished reading this book and it was truly a wonderful and emotional ride to read this. I've read a few other Nicholas Sparks books before but never has one moved me like this one has. The Longest Ride follows two couples and ends up with how their lives intertwine. It's almost a novel of fate, because some of the characters' lives wouldn't have ended up how they did without another series of events. The main storyline is between Luke and Sophia. Luke is a cowboy who rides bulls for a living and Sophia is a college senior at Wake Forest. Normally they wouldn't have met but because they did, their lives were forever changed. The second plotline is between Ira and his late wife, Ruth. Ira is an elderly man who winds up in a horrible car accident. His wife appears to him while he lies helpless in his car, urging him to stay alive a little while longer. They end up reliving tales of their life, otherwise known as the longest ride. Ira and Ruth's story only spans a couple days while Luke and Sophia's is several months; however, both of them combine to produce a powerful and emotional novel of love. This book was so amazingly written. A few parts made me laugh, several pulled at my heartstrings and some even made me cry. I devoured this novel and loved it so much I may even end up re-reading it which is something I rarely do. I HIGHLY recommend reading this novel, whether you are a fan of Nicholas Sparks or not. It's a beautiful novel about the power of love and the path your life can take when you meet that one special person who will walk with you on the longest ride.

I absolutely loved the movie, so I thought I would give the book a try. However, even though I did like some things in the book and it even explained and gave some background knowledge of certain things that happened in the movie, the movie was way better. In the book neither one of them at Ira until it was already 80% over, you didn't revisit Ira's life through letters he had written to Ruth, but rather through his own thoughts when he was stuck in the car. I was really saddened by this because one thing I really liked about the movie was how Sophia and Ira became friends. I did like that it took a little longer for Sophia and Luke to really become a couple, they took it a little slower in the book and I liked that, it kind of built up the passion a bit. Those that care to know, they do make love in this book, but it's not explicit at all. It basically just says they made love and that was it for those scenes. After reading this book, I don't think I'll be reading anymore of Nicholas Sparks books, but I will most definitely by the movies. I'm not sure why he has such a difference between his books and his movies, but the last four movies have been so much better than the books that he has written. For me to say that is amazing, because I almost always like the book much better than the movies, but for him it's been the opposite for a while now. I do think this book was worth reading, but I will say that if I read the book before watching the movie, I probably will not have watched the movie which would have been a mistake because the movie was amazing.

I’ve had a long reading relationship with Nicholas Sparks, and the best way I can describe it is Incredible!!. Going into his each of his books, I never doubt he has a fantastic story to tell. As with all of his books, you get to know the characters, Their lives, feeling, and all their emotions as if experiencing them yourselves. I usually cry reading every one of his books (whether from happiness or sorrow) an did so again with this one.Thankfully, The Longest Ride was absolutely perfect! This novel is definitely my favorite by Sparks and I canNOT wait to see the movie.The Longest Ride shares two parallel stories that I’ll only touch upon briefly because I don’t want to give anything away.The first story is of Ira Levinson, who is a ninety-one year old widower that has careened off a snowy embankment and is stranded waiting for help. As the hours and cold set in, the outlook is bleak and daunting. However, it’s during Ira’s most desperate moments that his wife Ruth that passed away nine years ago appears to him and together they reminisce about the life they shared together prior to her passing. This is the story we all dream of…That’s one in a life-time love…Ira and Ruth story was my all time favorite.The second story occurs miles away between a cowboy, bull-rider named Luke and a college student named Sophia. They meet at a rodeo and soon strike up an unbreakable bond and heartfelt romance that’s not without its fair share of struggles and hardships.As these storylines progress, we get to know these two couples and all the while ponder how Sparks will merge their lives. Well, let me end by saying this, the crossroads for their stories was an amazing moment, and the twist at the end had me smiling, guffawing and pining to see the movie.The Longest Ride is one of Sparks rare moments where I didn’t have the urge to fling the book out the window. Loved it!

The obstacles that affect their lives are great, but the surprising twist at the end of the book catches everyone by surprise.

I liked the first part of the book as the author described how he entered medicine and his internship at Cook County filled with idealism only to be faced with the reality of patient care and poor to no support from the medical staff. See one, do one, teach one is a reality in medical education even today. He goes into great detail about his political involvement as a resident and the functioning of the hospital which I found boring. I would have enjoyed the book more if he had told more about the people that he worked with, both patients and staff.

This is another look at a grand institution. I had some great opportunities in my early training years to shadow in the Trauma Unit. I was quickly made aware that it wasn't the "HI TECH" equipment (there was none), it was the practitioners who manned the room that made the unit so great. I also got a taste, as a paramedic, of the ED when I again, did clinical rotations many many years ago....I never experienced the 300+ patients waiting for care and getting the best.... I added this to my previous read HOSPITAL which looked at CCH as well.

Dr. David Ansell has written a compelling autobiographical inside look of his own personal journey in becoming a doctor at Cook County hospital. If you have ever been an intern or resident physician or even better, residency in Chicago, you will find some eerie similarities to your own experience. His experience actually led to some important health policy changes in America where patient dumping in emergency rooms has been banned. His 17 years of frontline work in Chicago's public hospital also saw the transition from the old hospital to a new hospital. More importantly, he illustrates from a physician/patient perspective how our current health care financing system has failed us and why we need a single payer, national health insurance plan for this country. For those interested in health policy, but from a personal real life perspective, this is the book for you.

Excellent book well written and factual. Any one from Chicago and the medical field will really enjoy this book.

Excellent account of daily life at Cook County Hospital and the efforts by house staff to improve medical care for its patients. This account documents the period of time after my time there 1963-64 when house staff simply tried to endure the daily grind of taking care of an unending stream of patients. My hat is off to those who also found time to successfully advocate for their patients.

Loved this book...could not put it down.... especially since I worked there in the mid 1960's..RN in Women and Men's admitting.

David Ansell tells his experiences of working as an intern and physician with Cook County Medical Center. Told with candor and an activist's zeal, Ansell's story gives an enlightening look into the challenges of offering quality medical care in the final quarter of the 20th century at Cook County. Working in what is comparable to third world conditions, Ansell tells of the challenge he faced as a young doctor trying to make a difference in the life and health of his patients at County. Though this book reads like a memoir, it also contains a history of the medical and political developments that occurred in the latter 20th century and their impact on lives of the poor in Chicago and Cook County. While a bit uneven in quality of writing, Ansell's story is engaging and challenging to anyone concerned about health and well being of the poor.

Currently entering my third year of medical School. Dr. Ansell's book is a shining example of a life of boots on the ground medicine and activism.I highly recommend this book to any medical student especially people in Chicago. There is a lot of history in here about the County Hospital.

The book is blueprint reading for electricians, not schematic reading for electricians.As the electrician you are supposed to know and understand the electrical schematics. As a good electrician you also know and understand what the blueprints for the building are telling you. Learning electrical basics is not what this book is for. It's about helping the electrician straddle several disciplines.For instance, fire door schedules. In (most) secure fire doors the lock bolt solenoid is thrown by default and requires the user to interact with the lock to retract the bolt so the door can be opened.Electrical and electromechanical components, as well as the wiring, have different requirements depending on the rating limits of the door. If the electrical components and wiring cannot meet or exceed the exposure specs of the door and door frame then you may have just trapped a bunch of people inside a burning building because the solenoid bolt was thrown and the wiring to the "Press To Unlock Door" button has burned up.Once you know and understand the electrical side of being an electrician this book will prove extremely useful.

I am totally disappointed in this book. It would be alot easier to do a Goggle search of electrician symbols than to try and use this book. It is suppose to be for electricians but it lacks any foundation for the electrician. The main reason I dislike this book, it has no substance just electricial symbols, no explanations, no discussion of what the electrician needs to focus on, and the worst part, the graphics are small and not well done at all. Full of useless information, for example, I want to learn about electrical blueprints so they had to include door schedules,etc.etc. just fill material to sell a book.
